jillcooperAbout the Author:

I could write this in the third person. I could tell you what I like, where I was born, and what my favorite things are.

But instead, I'll say I don't want to write like everyone else. I don't want to craft stories you've read a thousand times before. I want my novels to be a cinematic experience, blending themes, genres, and situations unlike any you've ever read.

I want to break the rules. I want you to break out in a cold sweat as you read my books out of fear, love, and excitement. I want my books to be an experience. When you finish, I want you to feel something. Good or bad.

If you do, then I'll have succeeded. If not, I'll keep trying.

Review:

I received a copy of this book for free in exchange for my honest opinion.

I was not entirely captivated by this story.  I found it somewhat difficult to follow in places.  The story did not flow well.

I am not a student of Native American lore.  I knew the term Thunderbird was from that culture but I had no idea what was its meaning.  After reading this book I suppose I understand a bit better but am still a little confused.  I believe with some more editing this could be a much better novel.

Characters seemed to be randomly thrown together and at the end I found out why.  It came across disjointed when the main character Beth had a thought and then suddenly acted on it.  Lucien and Beth's love is complicated as it is for many people.  There were several times I found myself wanting to shake the characters to make them see what was going on around them.  And with their history, trust is not easy for Beth where Lucien is involved.

Overall this could be a really great story, there is a good bit of potential.  It is definitely in the realm of fantasy.  The book is at least an interesting story.

Guest Post:

As I was grocery shopping the other day, I found myself mysteriously drawn to the bakery section where I had a hankering for a luscious chocolate donut or an old-fashioned donut drizzled with caramel frosting. Because I am allergic to dairy and wheat, I often find myself drawn to these foods like a moth to flame. It puzzled me why it felt like I always made a beeline for this section of the store until I thought long and hard about it and finally realized that I always work on novel right before I run my errands. The other day, I was writing about Xtreme Donuts and their fabulous gourmet donuts right before I set out to the go grocery shopping.

Xtreme Donuts is a fictional place I write about in my Wizards of Seattle series and the Grumpy Old Wizards series. One of the locations is in Seattle and if it really existed, I would visit that shop every single day just to have one of those mouth-watering, scrumptious desserts. Once in awhile I will treat myself to one of my favorite desserts such as a small piece of carrot cake with cream cheese frosting or a bite of cheesecake but I have to be really careful. The words of a dear friend of mine come to mind, “We are our own worst enemies” which makes me realize I need to rearrange those days where I have to run errands so that I take care of my grocery shopping and other errands first before I write in order to leave temptation behind. Or at least, to help minimize it.

I still have to combat the sinister geniuses out there who insist on throwing alluring desserts in my face. For example, practically every single grocery store I go to keeps their bakery section right on top of the produce section. So you’re trying to be healthy and you’re putting apples, celery, and other appropriate foods in your shopping cart while the tantalizing aroma of fresh baked chocolate chip cookies or cake wafts around you, just begging for a good home. And then when you’re standing in line at the checkout, all of those magazines with pictures of cheesecake drizzled with salted caramel sauce and other delicious desserts beckon like sirens, often containing large print right beside them claiming you can lose 20 pounds in three weeks – sometimes even faster than that. When you really think about it, grocery shopping is a very difficult chore full of very challenging obstacles for healthy eating and if you’re trying to lose weight, it’s like running the gauntlet. Wish me luck and read a good book
